  • Pulling silk from text or object effect.

Does anyone know about a filter or transition that gives the appearance of a silken cloth being pulled off (to the left) of text or an object?

A 3D software or a live shoot will give you the best results. Then again, you might be able to get decent results with FreeFormAE and Zaxwerks 3D Flag.

I have seen this effect two or three times now in non related videos.
I am pretty sure it must be a transition or a plugin of some kind. The question is which one.
The effect quite literally looks as though you are whisking a large silk off of an object. Does that sound familiar?

I think I have a decent idea what you have in mind. AE’s tools are possible but they are limited by the way AE handles 3D-aware effects. 3D effects in AE are rendered in their own 3D space, outside of other 3D layers in AE.

For the said effect, a cloth generated by FreeFormAE or Zaxwerks 3D Flag will be limited by the effect being either in front or behind of the text layer. Duplicating the effect such that the two copies sandwich the text layer in the Timeline is possible but the end-result may not be as expected.

How the text layer is generated is another thing to consider.

It would help if you could post an example.
