  • Ultrascope in MacPro is extremely slow

We have a MacPro 8 core 2.4 ghz , 24 GB ram with a ATI5870 with a Ultrascope built in. Latest Ultrascope drivers are installed.

It takes 3 seconds for a shot to arrive on the Ultrascope Screen and the scopes/meters are jittering. They just can’t keep up.
When just having 1 parameter up it does speed up.

    What could be the problem?
I’ve tested the Ultrascope on different MacPro’s with different ATI cards but it’s all the same.

So the GTX285 is the only certified card for a MacPro.
But you can’t buy it anymore because it has been discontinued.
Will Blackmagic support other Nvidia’s or ATI later?

    Hi Paul,

This doesn’t directly relate to your situation, but we were having similar issues with our PC ultrascope box. From the day the system arrived it had similar playback issues to what you’ve been experiencing – 2-3 second lag with picture and steppy playback far from realtime (like 5 fps).

After a lot of back and forth with the local distributors the problem was isolated down to the latest graphics drivers that the system came with. The 4650 card was running 11.x drivers. We completely uninstalled these and reinstalled v10.2 drivers and the machine now works perfectly.

Not sure if that relates to your situation with a Mac but it could be worth a shot. Call your distributor to confirm which version of drivers the card is supposed to work with.

    Cheers
