I’m thinking of buying a Decklink SDI, for the sole purpose of running a SDI in on an old Sony CRT client monitor at home.

I also have a RME Fireface 400 soundcard. The problem i’ve been told is that my Final Cut Pro projects may run out of sync (Audio & video).

How likely is this with a low latency soundcard, i’m guessing that the pro audio sound card would be able to have lower latencies than the BM card (i might be wrong).

I’d like some thoughts on this please.

    Many thanks,

    Ben

    Hi Ben,

I’m afraid that you would most likely see some sync issues outputting video from a DeckLink card, and audio from a separate sound device. The problem with this setup isn’t the latency so much, but that the two devices aren’t synchronised.

Using a Decklink card, the audio and video are synchronised together within the hardware as they are received from the software, and output together on it’s outputs.

If you need to output to analog audio, for example, a DeckLink Studio may provide a better solution.
