  Intensity Pro – Garbled sound over HDMI from PS3

  I’m using a PS3 debug kit, so I have disabled HDCP, so now that that’s out of the way here’s what’s up –

  I setup the Blackmagic software to capture HDMI video and audio, 720p 59.97fps or whatever.

  Video is great, mjpeg is kind of a crappy codec and is introducing some artifacts around text, but I can live with it for our purposes.

  BUT, I popped in gran turismo 5 prologue and went to capture the intro video, and the sound is garbled, horrible in fact.

  I went back into the system menu and changed display output settings, HDMI, 720p, sound output HDMI also, automatic…hmm.

  I selected custom and disabled everything except 2 channel linear 172kbps.

  Sound works fine now!

  Is there anyway to capture 5.1 or 7.1 audio? I’m running out from the Intensity Pro to an Onkyo 7.1 home theater receiver, to the TV, so the receiver is playing the audio, and it has a 7.1 speaker setup. Sounds a bit silly when in the 2 channel mode.

  It’s not that big of a deal, but a big hassle to have to disable all of those settings when I want to make a recording.

  Hi Kevin,

  Intensity does not have a built in 5.1 decoder so it just sees the encoded audio stream as data bits which makes it sounds garbled. Unfortunately, there’s no way around it at this point, you’ll have to turn off surround sound when capturing via the Intensity card.
