  • Decklink HD Extreme 2 conflicts with 8800 card

Posted by Nicky Scali on April 22, 2008 at 4:21 pm

We just installed a new Decklink HD extreme 2 card tonight on a Macpro 2.8 8 core.
After installer blackmagic drivers the Nvidia 8800 video card screwed up.
Firstly it was refreshing slowly. Secondly the decklink drivers disabled quartz extreme on the card and therefore final cut pro would not load.
After uninstalling the decklink software, the 8800 video card/display went back to normal.
There is something in the software that is conflicting with the card.
The machine has gone into Powermedia for a hardware test on the 8800 card but I suspect this is software related.

10.5.2, FCP 6.0.3, Macpro 2.8 ghz (early 2008). 8 gb Ram. Decklink card installed in slot 4 with latest drivers.

    Hi Nicky.

This is a problem that can occur when you install the Decklink drivers before you install your edit software. With no applications telling it otherwise, your Mac system sees the Decklink card as another graphics card and gets confused.

Install FCP first, then your Decklink card, then the latest drivers.

    Darcy,

That’s not the issue. I have the exact same problem with the Decklink HD Extreme 2 I just got.

I’ve been running FCP (now 6.0.3) on my Mac Pro 8-Core 2.8 GHz with the 8800 & 16 GBs of RAM for 2 months while awaiting NAB and a new video card to put in it. Now FCP does not launch, and going into the Graphics / Displays section of the System Profiler, it states that Quartz Extreme is not supported on the Graphics Card.

    Not cool.

Absolutely everything on my system is the most current version.

This appears to have fixed the problem for me.

    David,
In the end we swapped the Video card and the error message went away and the error message went away and the decklink card started working.
Having said that, with video desktop enabled the main monitor (cinema display) is horrible.
Slow refreshes, fragments left over etc etc. I had to disable the video dektop and it is back to normal.
