26 pin D plug – need to connect to digibeta
hi everyone
i am a complete self taught novice, but i have a G5 with what I think is a Decklink HD Extreme Card. it has 3 BNC plugs, and a serial plug which I am hoping I can use to control a Sony A500P Digibeta Recorder – as a matter of urgency!
My confusion comes from the fact that the serial port is 26 pin, in 3 rows – 8 8 9. Everything I can find online in terms of the cable i need etc talks about 9 pin and RS422 etc… i just really need to output my FCP timeline to Digibeta and it can’t just be a crash record – i need to have timecode sync..
any help SP appreciated! any questions you have that help me i will happily answer…
Its a Mac G5, FCP 5.1.4. The timeline is HDV adn I am downconverting to Letterbox SD in the decklink prefs.

where did you get this card from. You are missing the breakout cable, which gives you all the audio, video and VTR control. Did you get this card used ?

The computer and card belong to a friend who has loads of acumulated gear, he’s loaned my the computer for editing my current projects on kind of a “here you go” make it work basis.
I know the cable you mean,hadn’t needed it up till now as video and audio were using the SDI out. he has one attached to another of his macs – however I asked him to tell me on the phone the pin configuration – and it didn’t match the 899 26 total arrangement this card has.
Would that mean its not compatable, or is there an adapter available that could bridge the gap, do you know? I’m in london and happy to go and buy one, if anyone knows where I could get one?

gee, I guess you will have to contact an authorized Blackmagic dealer (a value added reseller, not a discount house), and ask them to order one for you from Blackmagic.

Hi Hugh,
To confirm the model of your card, just go into the OS X system preferences, then click on the DeckLink preference pane. It will tell you at the top of the window.
The port on the back of the HD Extreme is a breakout connection with analog video, AES audio and RS422. You can order the replacement cables from any of our resellers. Check this page for their listing.
Alternatively, you can also find someone to wire up a custom cable with only the RS422 connections for you. On the Dsub 26 pin connection, pins 17,7,9,18 and 8 map to pins 1,2,3,7 and 8 of the RS422 9-pin connection respectively.

actually one more question for you… the 2 SDI Outputs on my HD Extreme Card – monitor and deck out – are they just two of the same? or is there some function one has the other doesn’t?
