  • How to export SD from a HD1080 50i Project?

I dont know what i am doing wrong when i try to export SD from a HD1080 50i project from Premiere Pro CS3 on a PC.

So, i am editing a HD1080 50i project and want to export it to SD so i can burn a DVD but the artifacts in the exported footage is really catastrophic. I have examples that you can watch here: https://www.averdahl.se/BMD_Exports

I have tried different codecs, different field orders, on different computers, with or without the card installed and every time with the same result – unusable footage. I wonder if its me, the BMD codec, Premiere Pro CS3 or a mix of the three that yields this result.

I get the same results on computers with Decklink HD Extreme and computers with Intensity Pro on PC’s. I use PPro CS3.1.1 and CS3.1.1 and used the 6.6.2 driver for the Decklink card and the 1.8.2 driver for the Intensity Pro card.

The only way to get usable footage is to import the HD1080 50i Project into a SD Project and rescale the footage. Down below you can find the clip i have used so you can try it for yourself. I have also wrote down how i did export the clip you can see.

The footage, the projects and the exported footage have BMD’s Motion-JPEG codec. I have tried the 8 bit YUV with the very same result. I have exported via Adobe Media Encoder to Mpeg2-DVD with the same results as well.

Here is the footage i used: https://www.averdahl.se/Averdahl_Sample.zip

This is how i did export the footage:
HD to SD – Upper Field First:
    1. In a HD1080 50i Project: File > Export > Movie
    2. Click on Settings
    3. Change Field Order from Lower to Upper
    4. Click Ok
    5. Name the file and click on Save

HD to SD – Lower Field First:
    1. In a HD1080 50i Project: File > Export > Movie
    2. Name the file and click on Save

Downscale in a SD Project – Upper Field First
    1. Create a new BMD PAL SD Project
    2. Import the clip
    3. Place the clip on the Timeline
    4. Go to Effects panel and rescale the clip to 54%
    5. File > Export > Movie
    6. Name the file and click on Save

So, if someone can help me i am really greatful. Please help me to get back on track again since i must be missing some basic setting/s here. 🙂
