Possible to delay some of the outputs of Multibridge Pro?
Apologies in advance, this is a bit of a waffle….
I have an issue where I am outputting to two monitors (a 20″ Sony broadcast CRT and a 40″ Sony Bravia LCD) and am experiencing a 3 frame delay between them.
I’m going to be talking about three different screens here, so to avoid confusion I’ll refer to both the above monitors as “monitors” and my main computer display as my “display”.
Both monitors are being fed from the outputs on my Multibridge Pro 2 box – the CRT is getting a YUV feed, and the LCD gets the HDMI output. I believe the big Sony Bravia must be taking 3 frames to ‘process & display’ the signal, as that’s the monitor that’s displaying it’s image 3 frames after both the CRT and my computer display.
As the Bravia is my client monitor, audio sync has to line up perfect, and so I’m running an optical audio cable from the Bravia monitor to some speakers. This is just for monitoring in suite, and because the speakers are being fed from the Bravia all is in sync. Once I set the Frame Offset preference within Final Cut Pro to be 7 frames, instead of the default 4, both my computer display, plus my Bravia monitor are in sync, but my other monitor, the CRT broadcast one is out, as it needs it’s offset preference set to 4, not 7.
Everyone still with me?
Now, with this setting, the two screens that ARE in sync, my computer display, and the Bravia LCD, are only in sync when working in Final Cut Pro. If, for example, I play a .MOV in QuickTime Player, the audio (after first passing through my Bravia) is out of sync with the picture on my computer display as no offset is being applied by the operating system, just Final Cut Pro.
Here’s what I want: all monitors in sync with each other, and audio – crazy huh?
I know this isn’t an issue with the Blackmagic gear, just a nuisance created by the Bravia, but I was wondering if there was anything I could to do delay the feed going to my CRT, so I can get some synchrony going on? Whether that’s some random piece of delaying hardware I can put in the chain somewhere, or a feature that can be enabled in a future software update to the Multibridge Pro system preference, I don’t mind.
Any thoughts?
Did my blurb even make sense?
Thanks.—
