When I go Edit to Tape in FCP I find that on the first frame on tape there is one field doubled – causing a jerky movement at this point. This makes it virtually impossible to make a decent video insert on tape.
NB This is not a playback offset issue. You cannot solve the problem that way as a different offset will not change the fact that the first frame coming from the Decklink card has a duplicated field

Anyone having the same problem here?

PS Blackmagic acknowledged the problem to me but strangely they also seem uninterested to solve it – they told me they didn’t address the issue in their 6.3 driver. I wonder if solving the problem would cost more than 15 minutes of coding…?

Well I did, and then you the first frame has a duplicated field.
    You should look closely.

It may be problem that occurs in PAL, not in NTSC …

You are right. It doesn’t work. You know, I’ve just bought my first aja card to put in our output mac. It’s pricy, but I cant live without frame accurate edit to tape.

This happens to NTSC as well. This occurs at every insert point. I tested this with frame counter video. Every insert duplicates the first frame. I hope Blackmagic is listening. This is totally unexceptable issue that was not fixed but version 6.4.

Well finaly someone who shares my problem. Insert on my system is a big no no as well. Same stuff going on: two duplicated fields on the first frame I dump to tape. I (kinda) resolved this issue by trying to insert on a cut, but it did not make me happier. Now that I bought a new mac pro and I’m planning to do an entire show in HDCAM I discovered that I cannot edit to tape onto a Sony HDW-2000 without having serious green digitale noise in the picture. When i crash record, everything’s fine, but when I edit to tape the picture is FUBAR. I’m still searching for an answer, but I believe it has something to do with either the videodesktop thing or the RS-422.
Sorry for the rant. Just to tell you I share the same issues and I did not find a solution. At the end the solution will probably be called “AJA”

    Hi Oredano,

Did you ever solve your green digital fuzz problem when outputting HDCAM via Decklink pro edit to tape to Sony HDW-2000. This problem has just arose on our Mac Pro under Leopard with edit to tape although print to video works fine. please tell me you didn’t have to give up on the BlackMagic card.

Actually I forgot about this post, so I did not mention that Blackmagic gave me a solution: uncheck “remove field jitter” in the (OS) System Preferences > Decklink. No more duplicated field, gone, solved (for me at least).

I found an answer to the green digital distortion on picture when outputting to HDCam via Edit to tape on another thread. The suggestion was to switch the deck reference setting away from external or normal in the case of the HDW-D2000 to input. This solved the problem. I’m not completely happy switching away from my house ref signal but if it gives me edit to tape, HDCam, outputs I’ll happily switch for FCP/Decklink outputs and afterwards reset to ext ref for everything else.

    God bless forums!

just wanted to say that I had the same problem with the green screen mess on edit to tape output from fcp to hdcam, and that after reading this post it was a huge help, especially from alex. As soon as i switched the hdw-m2000 outref switch to input it sorted itself out, and my blood pressure has come down again!!!

    many thanks
