Decklink HD studio axed- Hello Intensity Pro
I see that Decklink HD studio has been removed from the BM website and then the Intensity Pro appeared.
I guess it’s logical. I was just about to purchase the Decklink but it appears that the Intensity Pro does pretty much the same thing without balaned XLR audio I/O or RS-422. I guess RCA’s will do for monitoring and firewire for deck control.
$350- pretty amazing.

Hi Justin,
The Intensity Pro does indeed replace the DeckLink HD Studio. We received a lot of feedback asking for RCA connections and unbalanced audio to support the most common outputs from analog devices, and especially for earlier HDV camera models which lacked HDMI output.
The engineers realized they could build upon the Intensity architecture and add analog connectivity for a much lower price that we could by using a DeckLink HD architecture. So that’s what we’ve done and it also seemed that RS-422 wasn’t needed by most people with analog RCA connections so we’ve managed to squeeze down the cost of the card to $349 and include both HDMI and analog connections.

Hi,
I’m glad to hear that you’re enjoying the Intensity card. ProRes is simply another codec so it’s easy for us to support it with a driver update once Apple release Final Cut Studio 2. ProRes adds yet another great option to the list of professional compressed codecs provided by Final Cut Pro.

I own 3 decklinks sps cards and we just upgraded our computers to intel so I had to buy 2 new cards (pci-e) and decided to go with the HD Studio cards for $1000 each. I just installed them yesterday and then BM discontinues the card and release the same thing but slightly better for $350. I feel like I was just bent over. I know it’s not their fault but that is a crazy price drop for pretty much the same card. Do you think they would hook me up with a free Intensity? Or swap them out and give me some money back?
I know you guys are going to be like that’s the way it goes and 5 years ago you would of bought similar cards for 10 grand but the fact is 3 years ago we spent 3 grand on SP cards that no longer work in the new macs because Apple is always changing their architecture. Hopefully they stay with intel for a week or 2.
Anyway, Grant! Can you hook a brother up?

correction. my HD studio cards have XLR audio and deck control. so that is a decent plus.
Correct me if I’m wrong but the HD studio is essentially a Deckilink SP card and an Intensity rolled into one? And did they discontine this model because there was something wrong with it or it just made good sense in their product line?

I don’t believe that the politics of the BMD is ok. To put in commerce a new card few months after the sale of the same model isnt correct. Above all if I thought about all the problems had and tied up to immature drivers.

Well I almost pulled the trigger on decklink studio about a month ago becuase I need to start editing our HD material but I knew NAB was around the corner so I decided to wait and see.
Glad I did!
