  • what should my BM capture settings be for my online with my declick HD?

    Hi,

I have a tv show shot at 23.98 fps with the Varicam. I digitized the offline via firewire, and now it’s time to online the footage capturing via SDI. But can someone tell me what blackmagic preset I should select for the recapture? “Blackmagic 720p 23.98 – 8 bit?”. Will this still remove the flagged frames? I know what capturing with the DVCPROHD codec over firewire removes the flagged frames and gives me a 23.98 fps file. But will this still happen when capturing uncompressed over SDI via BM decklinkHD??

    thanks,

    Hi Jeremiah

    The Varicam 720 23.98 preset will produce 8bit Uncompressed media @ 23.98fps.

Depending on whether your camera was set to 59.94hz or 60hz will depend whether it will capture correctly.

If unsure – perform a quick test using the 720 59.94hz and 60hz and see which format is captured.

Decklink 5.7 includes Varicam support with Uncompressed 8bit and MJPEG.

Let me know how you progress.

Awesome, thanks. Just wanted to be sure I chose the right one so that the flagged frames were removed.

I believe it was shot at 59.94. Is this right?

    One more question:

If I have slo mo that’s 59.94, how do I capture that uncompressed 8 bit SDI? I assume there’s no way to slow it it’s 23.98 upon capture, is there?

    thanks,

“Decklink 5.7 includes Varicam support with Uncompressed 8bit and MJPEG. ”

I installed the 5.7 drivers and found that they ruined the realtime dvcprohd downconvert. Was all studdery and jumpy. For the online I’ll have an HD monitor, but for the next week I’m using an SD monitor and relying on BM’s downconvert. And like I said, the ugrade the 5.7.2 drivers killed it.

Had to reinstall 5.6.2 drivers. Downconvert back to normal now. But I noticed that the “varicam” setings are all the same in the easy setups in the 5.6.2 as in 5.7.2. So it should still work, yes?

Don’t know why it didn’t work. Maybe cause I’m still in fcp 5.0.4 and not 5.1?
