joining the blackmagic design family
I am switching over from media 100 to final cut pro. We are going to create two edit suites eventually, the first station is going to become our transition suite, our computer is a quad g5 with a mac gurus burly raid. On to the question- besides the breakout box what is the difference between the multibridge pro and the decklink hd extreme, also does the multibridge pro allow viewing with an lcd monitor or like the decklink the purchase of an hd link is necessary. Can 601 projects be viewed through the lcd monitor does.

The MB pro does not have DVI out. The MB Extreme does.

Hi,
The Multibridge Pro is essentially an external version of the DeckLink HD Extreme but with easier access to the connections and HDMI monioring output. You could use an LCD TV monitor with the Multibridge Pro to monitor SD or HD material. Yes, 601 video can be viewed via the HDMI output 🙂
If you plan to use an LCD computer display for monitoring (such as an Apple 23″ or Dell 24″ LCD), then you would need to use either a DeckLink card with HDLink or else Multibridge Extreme. This is because computer monitors do not typically display at TV frame rates and so hardware pulldown processing is required to display video on these monitors. Both HDLink and Multibridge Extreme have those capabilities.
