  • PAL colour bars 75% or 100%

Posted by George Evatt on August 29, 2006 at 12:49 pm

    Hi,

I have to output a short 16:9 program to PAL Digibetacam using Premiere Pro 2 and a decklink SDi card. Does anyone know what is the correct broadcast level for the colour bars 75% or 100%? The default Premiere Pro bars are set at 75%, but the test bars that come with Decklink are 100% (I can see this in the vectorscope).

So the question is what is the correct level to have colour bars for broadcast TV in a Pal country like Australia 75% or 100%?

    Thanks

    George

100% are the PAL standard and 75% are for NTSC (normally)

    Hi George,
The official UER bars (PAL) are 75% level and 100% saturation, except the white one that is 100% (luminance=1, saturation=0 ).
If the bars would be 100%, they would be simply “ilegal”.
The SMTP bars (NTSC) are the same than the UER, but the white (gray) is 75% luma.
When you use the bars you have to see that they reach the small boxes in the vectorscope, without over
    passing (sorry by my English).
    Salud.
