  • No Black Magic 720P 50 or 25 to choose in FCP

Posted by Johan Moeskops on August 16, 2006 at 12:40 pm

    Hi.

I have installed the latest driver of my Decklink Pro.
Now, in FCP I want to choose in the sequence menu for 720P 50 or 25 for my video-output on my monitor.
But there is nothing to choose.

Is there someone who can help me out here.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards, Johan Moeskops

    Hi,

The option you need to choose is Blackmagic HDTV 720p 60Hz – 10bit (or 8 bit if you are working 8 bit)
This will allow you to view 1280x720p25 Uncompressed out via your Decklink card.

This is because when you shoot 720p25 it is actually 720p25/60. This means that the camera is running at 60fps, but only flagging 25 frames

    Hope that this helps.

    Cheers

Glad I could help. I have been bashing through the fun world of 720p solidly for the last 3 months now, so I understand how frustrating it can be.

    Cheers

    Hi Alister,
This is interesting to me as I’ve amost given hope for quite some time now.
I’m new at this and was happily shooting on my JVC HDV (101E) on 720p25 without thoroughly giving thought on the whole process of post production.
Right now I’ve resorted to downconverting my “beautiful” HDV video to SD and capturing at a lowly DV & DV50 codecs using my BMD Multibridge Extreme. What a waste….but it’s the safest way I know at the moment to do what I’m doing.

As stated, I’m fairly new at this. Could you please draw down for me the steps or workflow if I need to capture & edit in 720p25 from JVC via BMD Multibridge Extreme on FCP5.04

    Thanks & regards,

    G’day Ken,

Not too familiar with the JVC way of doing things, although I will give it a bash. Any ideas as to where I can get my hands on some JVC 720p25 footage from?

Is it standardised to the HDV codec (like Sony) or is it a codec on its own?

Let me know and I will have a play,

    Cheers

I suggest to use an HDV to HD-SDI cross-converter from convergent design.
This one will convert the 720p25 HDV signal to 720p50 HD-SDI, something
FCP can understand with a workaround. You can find an article here:
