HDV Down Convert w/ DL Extreme
Does anyone have this info. handi it would be much appreciated.
I have footage shot on the panisonic HDV cam. I would digitize from the firewire from the camera. How would I setup a FCP project I could output to Digi Beta? I’ve just done standard def. projects in the past. Can HDV footage play in a sequence in FCP off a firewire 800 drive?

Hi Bryan,
Use the easy setups we provide. It’s either “Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 59.94 – HDV” or “Blackmagic HDTV 1080i 50 – HDV” located in Final Cut Pro > Easy Setups (CTRL-Q).
Remember to create a new sequence as easy setups do not affect existing ones. Then drop the clips you’d captured into the newly created sequence. There’s no need to specifically create a setup for down conversion as it is handled by the options in our DeckLink preferences.

Can you take HDV digitized footage and put into 720 x 486 10 bit NTSC 29.97 seq to create a type of pan and scan situation? Knowing that it will have to be rendered. Do the frame rates work out? Is there any type of flicker?

Bryan I’ve heard that doing it that way will yield lots of undesirable artifacting.
What I do if I know for a fact that SD will be the only output required
by the client (and they agree as well) is to capture the footage through
the analog component inputs and set our multibridge extreme up to do an anamorphic downconversion.So we effectively capture in SD in fcp and the multibridge downconverts it just before ingest into fcp. The quality is top notch doing it this way, but because its HDV you also have to capture the audio as analog and there is no batch capturing available. (wish fcp would allow just firewire as deck control and our sound input)
