    Hey All

Just got the basic decklink SDI card, installed it through one of my PCI slots, loaded the latest drivers, restarted and get noise instead of a video desktop. I’m using a standard bnc cable out of the monitor output on my card going into an industry standard Sony PVM14L1, with a corresponding bnc input. How simple could this be to screw up??

In system profiler my Dual gig G4 recognizes the card. In System Preferences/displays, I have an additional display to the right of my computer screen. Also in System Preferences/decklink preferences, all is good there – I actually have very few options because this is the cheapest card. I’m running 10.4.6 and FCP 5.0.4, but haven’t even gotten to FCP because of the no Video Desktop situation – I won’t get anything in FCP until this portion is solved.

So I’m good as far as setup goes. If anyone has special inside info, please pass it along. Thanks.

The output of their basic card is SDI – serial digital:

The monitor you have takes in composite analog.

“How simple could this be to screw up?” is as simple as trying to run a digital data stream into an analog input. In the video world, and the computer world for that matter, just because you can hook two things together doesn’t mean that they should be hooked together – you need to understand what the signal on the cable is.
