  • Black Magic for capturing XLH1 SDI fromHDV tape to have a realtime conversion

Hi everyone. I’m new to this board! I am considering the 1,300 aja card and now looking towards the Black Magic for capturing XLH1 SDI from HDV tape to have a realtime conversion into Photo Jpeg and DVCpro HD. I could convert m2t’s but this realtime appoach would be better. Problem is I don’t know much about black magic. Is the Aja over kill for this? How do I get audio in with the SDI since the H1 SDI does not have embedded audio, so you use the camera audio out to the aja audio inputs. Can this be done on the on the $699 black magic or does it not have audio in. I know my question is weak, but it’s an example of my lack of knowledge on this. Thanks guysm in advance!

    Hi

We are currently using the Canon H1 for testing purposes in house and they are great. One SDI cable from the camera to the card.

Once you have captured using a Decklink card to Uncompressed video you can edit and play back without rendering. Realtime transistions and effects are possible if you disk array and machine can keep up.

Feel free to email any questions to pcsupport@blackmagic-design.com

Thanks Andrew! My biggest concern is making sure that I can capture the 24f to a jpeg 2000 etc and keep it’s true frame rate and take that into AEpro for effects comp work of minatures etc. Second for editing, how do I get audio in on the DECKLINK HD VIDEO CARD. I should say what is the method. Again thanks for helping!

Decklink Presets are available in Premiere Pro 2.0 that will permit working in
    PsF 23.976, 24, 25, 29.97, 30 and interlaced – 50, 59.94 and 60.

Video and Audio is transmitted via the SDI connection.

To capture audio independantly you need to provide a null video source (black video).

    Hi,

Unfortunately, no. The XLH1 does not have embedded SDI audio. In order to capture audio from this camera, you’ll need some form of embedder to embed the audio into the SDI stream since our HD cards do not have analog inputs.

One solution to capture from this camera is the Multibridge Extreme. It can embed analog audio into an SDI stream. Since the camera’s audio output has a different level than what the Multibridge Extreme’s input is, you’ll just need something to convert the unbalanced -10dB output of the camera to +4dB balance that is expected by the Multibridge.
