I have two FCP5 systems with the Decklink HD Pro 4:4:4 card which I have used successfully for HDCAM work.

We are now moving into HDV production and I’m wondering whether or not I can get real-time downconvert for making approval copies of interim edits without having to “conform” the video. Is so, can I specify letterboxed?

If not, what would be the appropriate workflow for working with the Decklink card?

I’ve heard (Graeme Natress) say capture HDV as HDV.
    Edit/color correct/ as HDV.

output the HDV in an uncompressed timeline and you should not notice any difference from capturing uncompressed from the start.

That wasn’t exactly the issue. But I did manage to find the answer.

Although I did RTFM, I didn’t notice anything about the Blackmagic Decklink Preference panel. I opened it, and enabled real-time downconverting to SD letterbox. It’s terrific. Now I may have to go and buy another card to enable real-time HDV on a third system here.

One of the BMD guys in Las Vegas gave me the solution via phone.

    Thanks, BlackMagic.
