BM DeckLink in a PM G5 Dual 2GHz – not able to play out w/ FCP 5.0.4
hi everybody!
i own a Blackmagic DeckLink card (the one w/ SDI I/O, SPDIF out and RS422). i used to work with this card on a PowerMac G4 Dual 1.24GHz without any problems. i recently upgraded to a PowerMac G5 Dual 2.0 GHz w/ PCI-X slots and installed the card. i can capture SDI video and audio without any problems. but i can’t playout or use the card as playback device (digital desktop feature doesn’t give any output too, but the “monitor” is visible in system prefs). my sony digibeta deck “sees” SDI video (but the monitor is black) the four SDI audio inputs are missing a signal (eg. they blink). i’m running FCP 5.0.4 (already downgraded to 5.0 and older decklink drivers for testing purposes – didn’t help). the weird thing is: when i open the “playout window” (don’t know the exact name, using a german version) and the denk is in EE mode, the video is looped (eg i see VITC lines on the screen) but when i try to playout, the monitor switches to black, the playout starts but there’s no picture and audio.
i hope this wasn’t too confusing. any help is greatly appreciated.

Same here. Exact same card and same G5. Same problem. Just discovered it today when setting up the card on a new system. I can capture but the output is a gargled signal and the deck’s VITC light keeps flashing.

Sebastion, did you do the 10.4.4 upgrade? That’s the only thing that could explain this on my end.

The gargled signal you’re getting maybe a looped signal (like this: signal from the deck’s input to your mac, from your mac’s output to the deck).
Solution for me: Sell the old Power Mac G4 w/ that DeckLink card and get another solution that works w/ my Power Mac G5. It seems no DeckLink card will work in my G5…

No I plugged it directly into an SDI monitor and the same thing occurs.
I have a PCI-X Mac. This isn’t an issue. The card used to run fine in it.

Nevermind. False alarm. Our dealer screwed us. The reciept says 2.3GHz and we didn’t discover until now that it is a 2.0 w/o PCI-X. Getting a replacement now. Terrible coincedence that I discovered it right after the 10.4.4 update.
