Since updating my Blackmagic software to the latest update for FCP 5, I’ve noticed that I don’t get clean downconversion output anymore.

The downconversion doesn’t look like clean SD when monitoring on an SD monitor from DL Extreme card. I’ve got my playback settings for Full quality and have tried various adjustments, but can’t seem to get a clean image, but rather soft. The timeline is fully rendered.

    Suggestions anyone?

    Hi Tangier,

What versions of Final Cut Pro, Mac OS X, QuickTime and DeckLink drivers were you using when the downconverted output looked fine and what versions are you now using?

I was using Final Cut Pro 5, the last version decklink driver released to work with FCP 5, the last version of Quicktime (I guess that would be 7.02), Mac OS 10.4.3.

I hope I am accurate as this is what I can remember.

Now I am using the latest updates for everything:

    QT 7.03
    Mac OS 10.4.3
    FCP 5
    BM driver 5.12

    Hi Tangier,

It sounds as though your old setup was DeckLink 5.1.1 drivers. What version of Final Cut Pro HD 5.0 were you previously using? It is now up to version 5.0.3 and the difference might be important.

Sorry for the confusion. In my previous post i put FCP 5 and that everything is up to date. I did mean that I have the latest updates for all of the software, so I am at FCP 5.03.

Also, I;ve noticed that several others are having the same issues on this message board with soft or blurry downconversion. This is terribly frustrating to the point of needing to find a temporary alternate solution.

I don’t know what else to do.

    Hi

I’m also experiencing soft looking images on downcoversion on my monitor.

I am working in HDV – sequence settings Apple HDV but playback set to Blackmagic HDTV 25-8bit for monitoring via component on my External monitor.
Playback settings are on full with nothing needing rendering in the timeline.

I did a test with HDV footage downconverted to DV PAL, in a DV timeline and the image was significantly sharper.

    Any clues?
