    Hi,

I’ve just set up a decklink extreme PCI express system (see profile), and am not sure about the size virtual memory to specify.

Should it be the maximum allowed or some intermediate?

Why are there two settings, one for initial and another for maximum?

Do I need to specify a much larger setting for my video stripe?

Any advice will be much appreciated,

    Geoff Gartside.

    Geoff:

Thanks for posting this question. Unfortunately, only 2 or 3 people on this particular planet know the answers and no one knows who they are. After experimenting with about every conceivable setting, I think checking the “system managed size” is the best way to go (and keeping the page file on your system drive).

    Hi Bill,

You’re probably right! I just use the default settings and it seems to work fine, including the “system managed size”.

Thanks for the comments – I’ll let Windows decide (it seems to do that most of the time anyway!

I have done a lot of testing on this subject.

Setting it to your RAM size or twice the RAM size, and set the minimum and maximum to the same setting is most ideal.
You can get a big penalty when your swapfile increases in size, and you risk that your pagefile gets fragmented that way.

    Thanks Yves,

I’ll try experimenting with the settings that you suggest, and also with Windows management.

Can anyone recommend a suitably intensive exercise to test the settings out with?

    Regards,

    Geoff
