Hello after installing 5.0.1.r2 drivers, i still cannot find the re-insertion of the Blackmagic 10 bit codec. I only see 8bit DV00 and 10bit DV10. Can someone please explain what is “BLACKMAGIC 10 BIT” and “BLACKMAGIC 10 BIT (DV10)” and is there any differnece in quality?

I need help right away thanks very much !
    Sincerely Asaf

    HI –

the DV10 codec is to give legacy support for Digital Voodoo files. There is a difference in quality, but it doesn’t seem to be huge. In theory you should be using the Black Magic 10bit codec, as DV10 is only meant to allow you to deal with older files that are in the voodoo codec, so there are probably some limitations with them in FCP.

After installing the new drivers, I get Blackmagic 10bit as an option. Maybe you should try uninstalling first. The problem I am getting is that BM10bit renders too brightly from AE.

Let me know if that helps.

This is just getting crazy. I have put off going to Tiger and FCP 5.0 for the gamma reasons. I have everything installed but am still working in Panther. I am not confident in the Blackmagic drivers as they stand at the moment.

    Hi,

You’ll only see the Blackmagic Codec when you are in After Effects. In Final Cut Pro, you’ll see the Apple Uncompressed 4:2:2 codecs.
We do this to prevent Quicktime calling the wrong codecs when rendering. However, since they both use the same FourCC, the Apple Uncompressed codec can ply our Blackmagic codec clips, and vice versa.

    regards

I don’t understand your decision to pull the codec. I want to digitize using your blackmagic codec, not Apple’s. Is there any way to bring it back to Final Cut Pro? Thanks.
