  • HD LINK Strange noise question for Luke or Matt

    Hey,

I talked with you guys about this a little at NAB, but I was wondering when there might be a firmware update for the HDLINK that will make the horrible noise that happens every 15 seconds or so stop. I think I’ve figured out a little bit more of what it’s actually doing. It sounds like the sound is getting slightly ahead of the picture so it runs out of sound data makes the noise and then the picture and sound are back in sync. I had never noticed this on the last film I worked on, because it was all score with no real pulse or beat, but I was just listening to music with an actual beat out through the HDLink and you can very clearly hear how whenever the noise happens the song drags for the duration of the noise.

As a side note, I’ve only noticed the noise running at 1080psf 23.98. When I send NTSC 29.97 to the HDLink I do not get the noise.

I hope this helps. Please give us a fix soon. I’m cutting a trailer right now in 1080psf 23.98 and the noise is really killing me!!!

    Hi Matt
I second this motion!!! I get it in sd/ntsc about every 45 seconds.
For spot work i survive but in anything longer “clients get real edgy” i notice that rite before the total digital sound it seems to start speeding up. Hopefully this can get resolved cause the product is good otherwise. One other issue i have seen is when the driver is intalled the machine wont shut down by itself.. ie. shuts done then restarts.. the driver seems to get corrupted after about 2 weeks and a uninstall and reinstall gets it going. When uninstalled machine shuts down just fine.

    Hi Matt,

We have reproduced this problem and have been in the process of doing a firmware update to address this.

Unfortunately, between NAB and addressing the Multibridge bugs (which by the way are fixed – we started shipping yesterday)we have not been able to get to other things such as the HDLink.

Now that we have got passed NAB and the Multibridge, we can now go back and fix some software and hardware bugs that we have been wanting to get to for a while now. So over the next couple of weeks we expect to tidy these up and release Windows and MAC updates.

    Cheers,

    Regards,

I’ll be looking forward to this problem, this has problem has made our hdlink unusable. Does this just happen with 23.98 footage, I seem to recall that I have had this problem with 29.97 as well.

I work almost entirely in 23.98, so it’s hard to say, but i’ve been cutting a trailer in DV the past week, and haven’t noticed it too much, then went back to 23.98 HD for a music video and the sound makes it almost unwatchable. It definately makes the clients very unhappy….
