Couldn’t the exact same result have been achieved thru Timewarp since they both use the same underlying Pixelmotion technology?
What advantages if any does Twixtor offer?Local is the new global

Twixtor and Timewarp are not based on the same code.
Timewarp is based on Kronos software licensed from The Foundry, and Twixtor is developed by Re:VisionFX.
I usually get better results with Twixtor – but occasionally Timewarp does better. Twixtor Pro has elaborate tools to help the software solve complex shots but I have no experience with those.

True. With Twixtor Pro in AE, you can use mattes to separate foreground and background elements, as well as track points and splines to help guide the motion estimation. Twixtor Pro can also import motion vector passes from a 3D application to help re-time rendered CG footage.

timewarp works with masks. maybe not as advanced, but it works on hard shots.
