Im trying to replicate the effet done in this music video at the 15 second mark.

I am thinking that i have to record the performance with the audio track slowed to 50% then bring the video back up to speed in the editor. If anyone can help out with more specific details that would be great.

I think you have the answer- in the clip though I do not think they had need to play the music back at 50% since it was just one long “Ooooooooh!”. Careful planning with what happens in the background is key if you want to seem that all is running at normal speed and not of fast forward. One trick is to make sure nothing crosses behind the character in the front and then shoot a long scene where the front main character does things at normal speed and then comp that on top of itself, speed up the top layer and cut out the main character with a garbage mask, feathered, leaving the background at 100% speed.
