How can I make video clip in slow motion with audio to match?
I’m having trouble making a clip slow motion in Avid, it works but there’s no sound. I’ve heard you can do it in AE but I can’t figure out how. Nothing tricky, I don’t want the audio ramped or anything. I just want to turn a clip to 50% speed and have the audio match. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Strange the Avid wouldn’t do it. When you adjust the clip speed in FCP it adjusts the audio accordingly.

I agree with Chris, that sounds strange you’d have to go into AE to make that happen correctly. Using AE for slowing down a clip like you need would be like going from your NLE to Photoshop to make a color still B&W. It’ll work, but shouldn’t be neccessary.
Surely you can do it in Avid Xpress.
I, too am a FCP guy, so maybe you should post your question in the Avid forum here on the COW?

I tried posting this in Avid forum but the responses were either :too vague and nobody would elaborate on specific steps involved, or they said to use different applications that I don’t have access to for the audio. I eventually will figure out how to do this in Avid, I’m waiting to hear back from former professors and friends at the school I went to.
In the meantime, if you wouldn’t mind humoring me and explaining how to do this in AE I would greatly appreciate it. I realize it’s redundant and shouldn’t have to be done in AE, but I just want to do whatever gets the job done for now so I can stay productive with a project I’m working on. I really appreciate your time!P.S. I am looking in to switching to FCP at some point down the line. My major drawback to the switch is I have a prety sweet setup going with Avid xpress Pro and Avid Mojo, which is an external nonlinear accelorator. The Mojo enables me to import and export to tape real time and uncompressed and I’m really happy with the quality, It also serves an output for my client monitor and inputs for any audio needs. I imagine I’d have to invest in a pretty spendy video card if I want to have all these features in FCP. Please correct me if I’m wrong as I really would like to switch, this is only what I heard.

Once you have exported the clip with the audio into After Effects,
create a new composition and drop the clip onto the timeline.
Now, Control click on one of the columns. When you see the menu item that says columns select stretch. The default will be 100%. Click on that and set it to what ever speed you want.
Now just render and you should be done. Make sure you have the Audio turned on in
the output module in your render settings.Hope this helps

In AE, Try selecting your layer and then choosing Layer > Time Stretch. Stretch it out as long as you want it to be using the dialog options.
The audio ends up much lower in pitch, by the way.
If you want audio that’s lowered in pitch, just extended, you could try using an Audio program that has the ability to stretch out the length of audio while still keeping it’s pitch. After too much stretching though it get’s distorted. I use Audition for this.
