  • How can I darken part of a layer as it animates?

Posted by Eric Olson on March 17, 2011 at 5:40 pm

I’m trying to do sort of a tricky effect. I have a shape layer that I’m animating into another shape by distorting the path.

I need a portion of the layer a slightly different shade than the other half. But when the shape layer animates I need the distorted parts to have the same dark shade.

I’m guessing that there’s some way to put a colored layer over the shape layer so that it only shows where the shape layers alpha is visible, but I can’t figure this out.

Hope this makes sense. It’s kind of hard to explain….

    Thanks,

    Eric

For one thing, Track Mattes come to mind.
