  • Particle break up then reform to another object

Ok this is a spin off of a question asked by marco quite sometime ago.. And every since I have been trying, researching and trying again and I cannot get this effect. https://xplsv.tv/motion.php?id=152 Where the “untitled” breaks up into particles then concentrates into like a stream the forms the droplet. I can get an object to break up using boris 2d particles. But getting then to move and follow each then finally forming another object is really giving me some trouble. If anyone would be so kind as to explain how this would be done in AE 6.5 I would be greatly appreciative.

It says that the particles were created in 3DSMax and I think you’re out of luck doing this in AE. It’s easy in a 3D program using targeting and morphs, but except for using excessice layer maps on Particle Playground I can’t think of an easy way to do it in AE. if you have RE:Flex you could also use a multi-step morph and add some noise to make it look like particles, but that too is a lot of work.

aaww man. Well thats a bummer. I have LW but I always have problems getting things from LW into AE. Well if anyone else has an idea, I ‘d love to hear it. I will look into reflex never heard of that.

You can’t really create this kind of effect in LW. (I use it, too) ‘cos there’s no real per-vertex/ per-particle re-targeting. It’s a shame. It’s a complete no-brainer in Maya. RE:Flex is a morphing plugin from ReVision FX.

EZ as well with Partficle Flow in MAX,….but in AE?…..Hmmm….maybe a particular layer to break up the object and turn it nito particles that form a stream,….and some sort of transition to a similar particle stream that ‘collects’ to another object (almost same flow as first layer, but in reverse)……

    Just an idea though…..

    Hi Jeff

I am downloading a trial of max now. Do you have any pointers or links to a tutorial that may help me achieve this?

To some degree, yes. http://www.allanmckay.com has several good video tut’s (watch them online) that take you through alot of particle basics…..that EXACT effect though is not shown. Should be able to fire it from the info u get on his site………

His particle attract & particle dispersion tuts should get you 99% of the way to what you need. BUT do not skip the basic tut’s, you will need them.

Hi Nathan how’s it going mate?
My names Patrick Da Cunha I created that untitled piece you guys are discussing. I used 3ds max 6 with sand blaster, how it works is that every object exists in both 3d and 2d, for example the text at the start that masks in is 2d but what you see before it disperses is the 3d. Hope that helps.

is a great site, I did all of those “old pflow” tuts. Well worth checking out if you’ve got a copy of 3ds max
