  can this be done? My favorite Photoshop trick

  Hi everyone

  I am learning AE after years working with Photoshop.

  My favorite trick in PS is to create an adjustment layer like raising
  curves for instance then adding a layer mask to that layer, filling with black to hide the effect then using a white brush to delicately bring areas of the curves layer back into the image.

  Can this be done in AE? Will it track if I am panning?

  I am aware that this may have been covered already but I am so new to this program that the terminology is new to me and searching is less effective.

  After Effects has adjustment layers but they differ from Photoshop’s in one significant way. They apply to *all* layers below and cannot be clipped to a single layer. You can mask the adjustment layer (similar to a vector mask in PS) to affect only specific areas of the layers beneath or use a Track matte (similar to a pixel based mask) on the Adjustment layer.
