Using thunderbolt with firewire adapter on older mac
Posted by Jennifer Mayer on March 30, 2015 at 11:25 pmHello. Can I not use a thunderbolt to firewire adapter on 2010 Macbook Pro? I am trying to connect a Lacie 2Big external drive. It will only mount with USB cable. I am running OS X 10.8.5
Thank you.

I’ve never seen a Firewire-to-Thunderbolt Adapter? Can you point me to one?
There are Thunderbolt-to-Firewire adapters but I don’t believe that you can go the other way.

Considering that your 2010 MacBook Pro only has USB 2.0 I’d say it’s time for a new Mac because that’s going to be far too slow unless you are just using it to store archived files.

March 31, 2015 at 1:52 pmThanks John. Yes, I did make the decision last night to go ahead and buy a new computer….heading out it little while to make the purchase. Leaning toward getting MacPro, but initially was thinking of getting MacBook Pro. Still kind of on the fence.

April 2, 2015 at 12:59 pmI guess it all depends on if you need the portability of a laptop or not. The new Mac Pro is quite impressive but it does chain you to a desk and the MacBook Pro is quite a capable laptop so I don’t think you can go wrong either way. Good Luck!
