how to slave one computer to use as a monitor while editing
Hello, this may seem like a basic question, buhet I’m working on connecting my laptop to my desktop computer so I can use one as a monitor while editing. They are both fairly new macs and I’m wondering what kind of cable I would need to do this, as well as how to do this.
PS… I’m sure there’s probably a post on this already somewhere , but I’m at work and trying to figure this out on the sly (my work is non-film related)

I assume by “desktop computer” you mean an iMac. I think only the newest iMacs support being used as a monitor — check the manual for the details on this. Otherwise, can you post the exact details of what computers you have?

MY iMac, which would be the one that I would use as a monitor, is an August 2008 iMac, intel core 2 Duo. My laptop is much newer, it’s a macbook pro i5.
I’m not sure where my manual is for the iMac…
What do you think, can I do it?

Sorry, but you’re pretty much out of luck. It’s only the newest/current round of iMacs that can be used as monitors for another machine.
