  brand new Mac Pro monitor max res 1280X800?

  I’ve a year old 30″ mac monitor & brand new Mac 3.33Ghz 6-Core Intel Xeon running OS 10.6.4 and a ATI Radeon HD5870 graphics card but can only get 1280 X 800 max resolution. upon booting Color 1.5 I get an error message saying that I need a minimum supported resolution of 1680 X 1050. I am using one of the two apple mini display outputs w/ the standard apple adaptors to run a HDMI cable to the mac monitor.

  What am I missing. Surly a new mac & 1 year old Mac monitor can supply the minimum screen resolution for Apple’s Color? Help, what am I doing wrong?

  Apple’s monitors do not hand have never used HDMI. Nor do the MacPro’s have HDMI on the graphics card ether.

  Do you mean you are connecting via mini display port?

  If so you cannot use the “standard” mini display to DVI adapter to connect a 30″ Apple Cinema Display as those displays require dual link DVI.

  Thanks, Yes I am using the mini apple adapter not a dual link version you show. Guess I’ll need to buy the dual link version. Thanks.
  My 2nd monitor is a 30″Del which also only runs at 1280 X 800 resolution from the other connector on the ATI RAdeo HD 5870 card. Will I need a 2nd graphics card to get the 1680 X1050 display from it?
