  • Will Flip Ultra HD camera connect to a NON Intel Mac?

Does anyone know whether the Flip camera will feed its video into a NON Intel Mac? The Flip specs are confusing, as is the answer from their email tech support. I don’t need the Flip software to edit the video, I just need to get the video out of the camera.

Flip wants Tiger or better and an Intel processor but says what’s critical is having at least 1.6 Ghz speed and 1 Gig of ram. I’ve got more of both but am operating a G5 Dual. Their tech support is email and probably automated. I asked a simple question and all I needed was a yes or no, which they did not provide.

    thanks!

I have a Flip MinoHD which probably uses the same file format as the UltraHD.

On my G5 at home (first generation dual 2Ghz), it works fine except that it cannot play the files without dropping frames. You have to convert them to another format such as ProRes or the Intermediate codec using a tool such as MPEG Streamclip.

Sounds like we’re using the same machine. – the G5 early Dual – I experienced the same thing with the video from the Ultra HD I picked up. Had not thought to use Streamclip to convert – What’s the best format you’ve found to convert TO ?

    Thanks for your help!
