    just looking for the final word on this. i’m capturing some footage into my G5 via FCP with an i.wire from a Sony Z1U camcorder. i’ve heard that you should ALWAYS plug in the cable first, to both the camera and the computer before turning either on…and then power down before unplugging lest you fry a board or something. is that the real deal?

    You should leave the device (camera, hard drive) off until you’ve plugged the cable in on both ends, but I wouldn’t worry about turning the computer off.
