DEAD MAC HELP
1 year old G5, was 10.8 OS or close to that.
While temp was on our big rush job(of course), his system locked up and the operating system appears to be GONE after a hard reboot. He had kicked the firewire cord from the keyboard cord, but when I plugged that in, the keyboard works as far as cursor moving. And he may have kicked that out after it locked anyway.
The screen is not that dead “bluescreen” like you get on a PC, it has a little of that background graphic swishie on it, but no desktop icons except for top right corner, a little magnifying glass search icon that does nothing. That’s it.
What I’ve tried:
Shutting all power off of everything 10 times. Yes, I let it sit off for 2 minutes sometimes.
I’ve unplugged and plugged back in every cord/wire I can think of.
Since he had kicked the firewire from the keyboard, I swapped that out. Not that I thought it would help. I also changed the firewire port for the keyboard to another for kicks and giggles.
I put an OSX 10.6 disk we had in the drive. It is not taking.
This is our cleanest, best, fastest system here. Never has an issue…Except now when both of us should be working at once on Quark 7 which is only on two machines and I am going to have to be here all weekend anyway, might as well bring a change of clothes now. I’m not going anywhere.
Project that locked up was 52 pages, slightly slower to save or save to PDF, but we’ve done a few already and were ok.
Don’t tell me to switch to InDesign, I know. Have to work in client’s source application.
