  • image icons sometimes and then not

Hi chaps …. this is probably really simple but I can’t get my head around it … a typical situation will be where I have a qtime movie possibly created at work bring it home and drop it on the desktop and there it sits with the first frame represented as the file icon …. then maybe I create another movie and the icon is just the QT logo … I’m sure this happens with still images as well sometimes …. thanks for your time Roger

It must’ve been created in a program that adds the icon. I’m sure there’s some freeware or shareware app that would do the same thing for you via drag and drop if that’s what you want.

There is an option system in image and movie files to show itself as an Icon. Photoshop for instance uses this. If you don’t want this to happen you could go to View -> Show View Option and see if ‘show Icon Preview’ is selected. If it is all Image and movie files will use their own image or frames as the Icon. Some files that are created by third parties like Adobe probably won’t change if you delselect this option.

Thanks GranitW …. I couldn’t find a button in Qtime prefs for this … there is a change poster frame option but nothing else. I have a movie created at work on a PC where the icon is a pic and any I create at home on the Mac are the QT logo and yes I have the ‘Show Icon preview’ selected. Thanks so much for taking the time Roger
