  backing up query

  wondering about backing up methods for my g4 pb
  -i used disk utility to copy my int hd to a ext hd (and then repaired the interior one-everthing is working ok)
  have heard of programs like carbon copy that seem to do the same thing-is disk utiliy or disk warrior realiable for this also?
  what about just dragging and dropping files from interior to a exterior (while booted of another drive/computer)?
