  disk utility won’t erase some discs. why?

  why won’t Disk Utility erase (neither in quick mode nor regular) my CD-RW’s and DVD-RW’s? without reformatting/erasing them, i can’t use them in my Mac, but my PC seems to have no problem with them (this is one of the very few times i can say my PC is a bit more functional!).
