Posted by Dan Sheridan on May 24, 2006 at 4:25 pmHi Everyone,
I’m investigating backup solutions at the moment for my DVD / FCP / AE projects. Most of the projects and related files exceed about 10gb. So far I’ve looked at the Iomega Rev drive and perhaps DLT 8000.
My budget is limited to around

May 24, 2006 at 7:13 pmAre you planning to archive?
How much data will you need to backup at once?
Why not get an external HD…?

the only thing worth noting (and i haven’t researched the iomega one, although i suspect it’s the same deal as their old jaz drives?) is that tape backup is typically done in a tar format, and therefore you really can’t just pop in a tape to get a file off of it… :-/
in the sys ad world, tape backup is just to have a backup in a worse case, and something like a disk backup would be one where you would want to have easy access to the backed up content…
not to say you can’t get stuff of a tape, naturally, but it is traditionally more difficult…
