I really miss the panther way of searching. I don’t need all my files to be searched. Can I turn off the searching of the all the files by default? I want to search by one criteria only, or add criteria from there. Any ideas?

Once you type a word into Spotlight, hit the Enter key and it will open up a seperate window instead of that pull-down menu it usually uses. You get a lot more control there. There are also ways to use Spotlight technology in the Finder window itself.

And there are also Smart Folders. There a lot of ways to use Spotlight without actually clicking on that blue icon in the corner.
