  • Changing a projects frame rate

Posted by Neil Stratton on November 30, 2010 at 11:05 pm

Greetings again. I have looked around for an answer to this one but have so far failed. I have purchased a great project from a project vendor and it is 29.97fps. Now I am to produce a PAL dvd. My question is where to change the frame rate? Should I create a new composition at 25fps and import the composition into there? Or should I change the frame rate at render? Or should I leave it until I get to Premiere and import into a 25fps sequence?
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks again Dave! What I have here is not a footage item but an AE project at 29.97. Shall I just lay this into a 25fps comp?
    thanks

Yes. Since you have no video footage, AE can smoothly re-evaluate the comp at 25 fps instead of 29.97 fps without frame doubling, frame blending, or speeding up.

Two small gotchas: First, make sure that Preserve frame rate when nested or in render queue (in Composition settings > Advanced) is off, as it is by default. Second, watch out for fast motion — a quick move might be acceptable at 29.97 fps, but it might judder unacceptably at 25 fps.

Retiming video elements is another matter, better suited for Twixtor or Timewarp (see Chris Wright’s formula).

    Hey all.

Is there a way to change frame rates for an ENTIRE project? All subcomps, all layers etc…
