  frame rates for C100 & C300 shooting together

  I will be using a C100 as a B camera to a C300 on an upcoming shoot. Since the C100’s 24pf is in a 60i stream, and only 24p is really progressive – which setting on the C300 should I use? I’ve read on specs that the C300 shoots 24p and ‘true 24’? Is the C300’s 24p the same as the C100 (i.e. 23.98)? Is there ‘true 24’ something different (i.e. 24 instead of 23.98)?

  Anybody have experience cutting the two cameras together (using Premiere Pro)?

  The C300 will shoot what I guess I will call “usual” 24 (actually 23.976fps) and true (or “real” 24) which is an actual honest-to-God true and actual 24fps.

  In this case you’ll want your C300 to be shooting 23.976 in order to match with your C100.

  In fact, you’d almost always want to be shooting at 23.976. The only real reason to ever shoot at the “true” 24fps setting would be if you were planning to strike a real celluloid film print from the footage to allow for exact frame-by-frame conforming of the footage. Most of us never have to worry about this or ever do it. In fact most cameras won’t even do true 24fps, they just call it 24fps and it’s actually 23.976.

  Unless you are shooting for a real film print, you can pretty much forget the true 24 setting is even there.

  Everything I do is for web or broadcast anyways. I’m surprised they have a ‘true 24’ setting – I guess that was their push for cinema – although if going that route a C500 at 2K or 4K seems better suited then 1080…

  What is confusing on the C100 is the 24p and 24pf setting. With either 24pf or 30pf I’ve found interlaced jaggies when you blow up the footage – FCPX seems to still consider it interlaced. With 24p it reads it as true progressive and no jaggies when blow up.

  The C100 doesn’t have much frame options, but for the sake of quality it only has one real shooting option – 24p.
