  Wing-flap Ghosting

  I am experiencing a “ghosting” problem on footage of the flapping wings of birds, from my XH-A1. The shutter speed was at 1/500 f12, which I thought would have been plenty fast enough.

  I have captured in both NeoHD and Vegas7—same ghosting result.

  I have viewed this on both my LCD and my TV ext. monitor.

  I have tried to eliminate by switching to progressive field, but no luck.

  Is this fast motion a limitation of the XH-A1? Or, it this, once again, “pilot error” of some sort?

  f12 is too small of an aperture to use with a 1/3″ sensor in general… you most likely should have utilized the built-in Netral Density to limit the light going through the lens and perhaps used a shutter speed no higher than 1/250.

  The camera was on autopilot when these settings occured. I will not make this mistake twice.

  Do you believe that these extreme settings would explain this double exposure of fast moving objects, like flapping wings?
