    Hey!

I leave my canon camcorder on a tripod with a fixed focal length.

But.. Somehow it zooms out to wide, by itself, after a while…

Come to think of it – all my smaller canon camcorders also behave strangely in the xoom department.. one of them zomm from wide til max when i turn it on… when i zoom it back out to wide – it zooms back in…

    Ideas anyone?

Are you using a LANC controller? At my previous job, we were using a LANC controller on a DVX that was malfunctioning and causing the camera to zoom on it’s own. Otherwise, it sounds like a malfunctioning servo.

I had this same problem with my GL-2, it eventually got worse and worse until the zoom stopped altogether. It ended up being a bad zoom motor, which it turns out is a common problem with that camera. It’s too bad Canon still hasn’t put a real mechanical zoom ring on any of their cameras.
