  • How to Hold XL-1 or XL-2?

Posted by Phillr on September 7, 2006 at 5:52 pm

I’m a relatively inexperienced videographer, and VERY inexperienced with holding Canon XL camcorders. I’m wondering if you guys could give tips/suggestions or point me towards online links on how to hold them, and how to use the shoulder rest (that black piece of plastic). Any tips on holding a camera for an extensive period of time without getting tired?

Do you have that little shoulder brace that can fold back or down and it presses against your shoulder? I use that w/ my right hand push the viewfinder against my eye and help lift front at the iris control rubber cover that sticks out, but yes it did take some getting used to. I much prefurred the heavier cameras where most of the wieght is setting on your shoulder not pressed against it. Good luck
