  PAL to NTSC

  Hey,

  I was looking for some advice,

  I’m based in the UK and have a project that is currently in PAL, but I need to send it over to the states and I need to convert to NTSC. From reading articles online, there doesn’t seem to be definitive guide on conversion. I’ve gone through compressor and exported an NTSC version but I wanted some advice to ensure that it works (I dont have an NTSC dvd player to test it on)

  Hi Krish,
  you can playback NTSC-DVDs on PAL-player but it wont work the other way round.

  if you need to convert PAL to NTSC I would advice to use compressor with framecontrol. you should go 29.98 NDF and encode it as 29.98 NDF (progressive) otherwise you could get in trouble with the field-dominanz.

  note: it´ll take a bit of time to create your NTSC-film out of your PAL-material.

  I’ve done that and it seemed to have exported okay. Are there anything I need to lookout for when burning the DVD on Encore?

  I wold prefer DVD SP but Encore will be OK as well.

  Is your footage 25i or 25p? If you shot and edited your footage at 25p you should retime the video to 24p NTSC, there is zero quality loss that way.
