  • How do direct DVD sales affect potential for distribution?

I am getting ready to put my documentary “Journey on the Wild Coast” into the festival circuit. My partners are sure we can sell at least 100 copies directly to people who read the book that was published about the trek just over a year ago. I’m concerned that if we start selling DVD’s on the internet that it will reduce our chance of getting accepted to film festivals and may eliminate the chance of getting a distribution deal. Any one have any experience with this issue?

Depends on the festivals but in general I’d recommend holding off on web sales until you complete your festival run or at least get through your premiere.
