creating a glow around subject
Been trying to figure this out, but I’m sort of new to after effects. I’m making a video where the main actor has a glow around them and wondering what the best way is to do it. I’d prefer not to shoot with a green screen, if possible and do the whole effect in post. My first idea was to make a light source like you can in photoshop, and tack it on to follow the actor around the frame. Is this possible?

If you don’t care about the glow spilling into the background, then you can simply motion track the actor in AE and apply glow effect, avoid the mouth though. If you don’t want spill and you don’t greenscreen, you can roto either in 2D, 2.5D, or 3D, depending on the level of precision that you need.

If you have CS5, you can use the roto brush to create a garbage matte around the actor, comp that layer on top of the unaltered original and then apply the glow. Play with Matte chocker to adjust the matte and thus the glow.
