  Letterboxing Problem on an HDTV

  First time poster!

  So I’ve shot a project in 720p, edited in Final Cut 5, and am looking to export, then burn a standard DVD in DVD Studio Pro 3. I’ve tried it a couple of different ways, and I keep having the same problem:

  – When I play the DVD on my HDTV, I still get letterbox bars, which is clearly squishing the image that would otherwise be the correct aspect ratio.

  Just to be more specific, the first way I tried (and I haven’t seen much change any other way), is to:

  – export from the Final Cut timeline, using Compressor, with the “DVD – Best Quality – 90 Minutes – 16:9” setting.

  – Drag into DVD Studio Pro.

  – Author, using the 16:9 Letterbox setting.

  I’ve also tried just using a full res Quicktime file (that I know is 1280×720) I drag directly into DVD Studio Pro. Same with iDVD (I know, but I had to try it).

  Every time, it’s squished to fit in the black bars.

  Any help? Even a suggestion of a workflow from an HD Final Cut timeline, to burning to an SD DVD would be extremely helpful.

  Just set up your DVD player!
  Now you have DVD’s settings as “Letterbox/Pan&Scan”, and you must set to “Wide-screen”
