    Hi,
I’m trying to burn a widescreen movie in DVD Studio Pro so it will play full widescreen on an HD widescreen TV, and then convert to letterbox when played on a 4:3 TV.
I’ve set aspect ratio to play both “pan & scan 16:9”, and “4:3” in DVD SP preferences but when I play the video on a widescreen TV it vertically distorts the image. Everybody looks fat and squished.

Could it be that I’m compressing the video right in DVD SP when I import the files? My compressor doesn’t work so I’ve been importing the files as Quicktime files and letting DVD SP compress when compiling.

    Thanks a lot!

First you need to be sure you encoded your MPEG-2 video in true anamorphic 16:9 rather than 4:3 letterboxed. Then pick the 16:9 letterbox setting in DVDSP. If it looks correct in the simulator you are good to go.

    Chris,
Go to your DVDSP preferences, click on “encoding” tab and select 16:9 under “Aspect ratio”. I bet yours was set to 4:3.
